Khruangbin announce new album ‘Live at Sydney Opera House’
Immortalising their three-night run at the iconic Sydney Opera House, Khruangbin have announced a new live album, Khruangbin: Live at Sydney Opera House, due for release on December 1st 2023.
Featuring songs from throughout their career, the first teaser of their Sydney Opera House live recordings comes in the form of ‘People Everywhere (Shifting Sands Remix),’ an updated take on the track from their 2015 debut album, The Universe Smiles On You. Extending the sub-three minute original into a near ten-minute long live jam session, the live version brings a revived energy to the old song.
The latest in a run of live album releases, Khruangbin: Live at Sydney Opera House, follows on from recent LPs from Radio City Music Hall, The Fillmore, Echo Beach and beyond. Celebrating their prowess as a live band, the live records capture the atmosphere and energy of a Khruangbin concert in a way that rivals the original recorded versions.
Recorded at their Australian shows back in November 2022, Khruangbin: Live at Sydney Opera House features old favourites, including ‘A Calf Born In Winter’ and ‘White Gloves’ as well as newer cuts such ‘Time (You And I)’ and ‘So We Won’t Forget’ from the 2020 record Mordechai.
Gaining a reputation as one of the best live bands performing at the moment, these records truly capture the very essence of Khruangbin. Letting listeners hear Laura Lee’s intricate live bass-lines and Mark Speer’s vibey guitar licks in an undiluted way – the live recordings capture the band at their best. With the latest arriving December 1st via Dead Oceans, Khruangbin: Live at Sydney Opera House is set to be the latest stellar addition to their extended live efforts.
Last year, Khruangbin teamed up with Vieux Farka Touré on Ali. In a four-star review, Far Out wrote: “The deep sense of time, place and history rooted within Ali Farka Touré’s music was boundless. Thus, Vieux and Khruangbin would always have a tough time encapsulating it. However, this is no pastiche. There is a freshness to the slight funk-inclined sound, implying the progression that the hero always sought. “
