Kevin Spacey sells luxury Baltimore home to help with legal debt

Disgraced actor Kevin Spacey has sold his Baltimore home, valued at $5.6million, for significantly less to help with his financial woes following the sexual misconduct trials he was forced into.

In June this year, Spacey appeared in his first in-person interview in 18 months on Piers Morgan Uncensored. During the comprehensive discussion, he opened up about his legal battles and asserted that he’s now in severe debt because of them.

Spacey – known for his roles in House of Cards and The Usual Suspects – went through several legal trials following the accusations of sexual misconduct that emerged in 2017. Yet, in 2022, he was found not guilty of molesting actor Anthony Rapp. The award-winning actor was later acquitted of nine charges of sexual assault, and several other charges and lawsuits have since been dropped, too.

Appearing opposite Morgan, Spacey explained that he has been forced into selling his home to pay for the “many millions” that he owes in legal fees due to the sexual misconduct trials. At the time, when asked where he now resides, the L.A. Confidential star revealed that he wouldn’t have a permanent abode until the end of that week, and is currently living without any money, or “none”, as he described it.

“It’s funny you ask that question because this week, where I have been living in Baltimore is being foreclosed on,” Spacey told Morgan. With the house up for auction, he put his belongings in storage, a monumental change of fortune for the former Hollywood icon.

He added: “I’m not sure where I am going to live now. I’ve been in Baltimore since we started shooting House of Cards there. I moved there in 2012. This [house] has been my home since 2016. I can’t pay the bills that I owe.” He also explained that bankruptcy had been looming, and that there had been a couple of moments where he debated filing, but has managed to avoid it.

The actor said: “You have some sense of legal bills. I still owe a lot… Yes [I am in debt]. It’s considerable. Manymillions. The house itself is many millions.”

It has now been reported that the 9,000-square-foot property in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor that Spacey discussed and put up for sale, has been sold. Heavily indicating the actor’s need for cash flow, it went for a significantly cut price of $3.24million to an anonymous businessman. A luxury home, it sits on a floating pier, and has six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, rooftop terrace, sauna, elevator, home theatre and more.

“It is an iconic property in Baltimore,” local estate agent Sam Sheibani explained to the Baltimore Sun. “We were very interested in getting it, obviously not under the circumstances that it’s being sold, from whom it’s being sold.”

Regarding the allegations, Spacey has admitted to being “clumsy” in the past, but has denied committing any actual crimes. Following the recent documentary Spacey Unmasked airing on Channel 4, a string of famous names came to his defence, including Sharon Stone, Liam Neeson and Stephen Fry.
