Kevin Spacey forced to sell home to pay legal fees: “I’m not sure where I’m going to live”
Actor Kevin Spacey has revealed that he has been forced into selling his home in order to pay for the “many millions” of dollars that he owes in legal fees following his sexual misconduct trials.
Spacey went through several legal trials following accusations of sexual misconduct that arose in 2017, although in 2022, he was found not guilty of molesting actor Anthony Rapp, who had accused him of such a deed occurring. Spacey was later acquitted of nine charges of sexual assault, and many other charges and lawsuits have since been dropped.
For his first in-person interview in 18 months, Spacey appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored on June 11th. During the extensive conversation, Spacey discussed his legal battles and claimed that he’s been left in severe debt.
When asked by Morgan where he now resides, the Usual Suspects and House of Cards actor announced that he won’t have a permanent home after the end of this week and is currently living without any cash to his name.
“It’s funny you ask that question because this week, where I have been living in Baltimore is being foreclosed on,” Spacey told Morgan. The house in Baltimore is currently up for auction, and Spacey has had to put his belongings in storage.
Going on to explain his current situation, Spacey added, “I’m not sure where I am going to live now. I’ve been in Baltimore since we started shooting House of Cards there. I moved there in 2012. This [house] has been my home since 2016. I can’t pay the bills that I owe.”
Bankruptcy is also another possibility for the actor. Spacey admitted that there have been a few moments in which he thought about filing, but so far, he has managed to “dodge it, at least for today.”
As for exactly how much money Spacey might have in the bank, he said he has absolutely “none”, noting, “You have some sense of legal bills. I still owe a lot… Yes [I am in debt]. It’s considerable. Many millions. The house itself is many millions.”
The actor had recently admitted to having been “clumsy” in the past but denied actually committing any crimes. Speaking with Dan Wootton, Spacey explained, “I’ve never told someone that if they give me sexual favours, then I will help them out with their career, ever. […] Did I make a clumsy pass at someone who wasn’t interested as it turned out? Yes.”
“That may not have been the best decision and it’s not one that I would do today,” Spacey added. “But it happened. It wasn’t illegal, and nor has it ever been alleged to have been illegal.”
