Kevin Parker has provided an update on the eagerly anticipated new Tame Impala album.
It has been over three years since Tame Impala’s last full-length record. Currents was the third studio album by the Australian rock band and it was released in July 2015 and, at the time of its release, signalled the end of a three-year stint without new material.
Having seen Tame Impala release a live record and book themselves in for a series of festival performances over the forthcoming summer, Parker said: “I like to think that the album is its own thing,” when asked about the new record by The Sunday Times Australia.
He added: “I wouldn’t want in 20 years to be listening to an album I made now and think that I finished it for any deadline or any particular reason. It was finished because it was finished.”
“Anticipation is good… I want to be the kind of artist that feels empowered by people waiting to hear what I’ve got.”
