Keanu Reeves rules out John Wick return: “The character’s dead”
Keanu Reeves has ruled out the possibility of returning as John Wick by definitively stating that the legendary assassin died at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4.
During the climax of that 2023 blockbuster, the iconic character won his freedom from the villainous High Table organisation but seemingly lost his life in the process. The final scene showed Wick’s old friend and mentor, Winston, at his grave, situated next to that of his beloved wife.
Naturally, as the Wick franchise is extremely popular and a huge moneymaker for Lionsgate, many wondered if that fate was truly the end for the ‘Baba Yaga.’ However, beyond an appearance in the spinoff Ballerina, which is set between Chapters 3 and 4, and is due for release on June 6th, 2025, Reeves has confirmed there are no plans for Wick to return in a fifth solo movie.
When asked about the future of the series by Extra, Reeves mused, “Oh my gosh. Well, there’s a version of it called Ballerina, which is in the John Wick world, and John Wick makes a brief appearance. So, other than that, I have no idea.”
“You know, the character’s dead,” Reeves added. “He died in John Wick: Chapter 4. I know, in Hollywood you can…I know, I know, it’s the Hollywood story. Right now, there isn’t [any plans for a return].”
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, to give the film its full moniker, stars Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, a ballerina glimpsed in passing in Chapter 3. The movie follows her training for a life in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma faction featured in the Wick franchise.
Angelica Huston, Ian McShane, and the late Lance Reddick all reprise their roles from previous films, while Gabriel Byrne and Norman Reedus are newcomers to the series.
