Keanu Reeves doesn’t think his “knees” are capable of ‘John Wick 5’

Hollywood star Keanu Reeves has poured doubt onto the possibility of starring in John Wick 5 due to the physical toll it would take on his body.

The first movie in the John Wick series, released in 2014, became an unexpected phenomenon at the box office, leading to three more. The last movie, John Wick 4, arrived in 2023, but it didn’t contain a definitive ending, fuelling speculation that Reeves will revive the role at a later date.

However, in a new interview with CBS News, Reeves has admitted he has mixed feelings towards making another movie as the dog-loving vigilante, stating, “You can never say never. My knees right now are saying ‘I can’t do another John Wick.’ So my heart does but I don’t know if my knees can do it.”

The latest comments from Reeves regarding John Wick 5 are more positive than his previous remarks regarding a possible fifth film in the franchise. While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Reeves noted why he believed Wick deserved to rest, stating, “I mean, I wouldn’t do a John Wick film without [director] Chad Stahelski. We’d have to see what that looked like. For me, it feels really right that John Wick finds peace.”

Stahelski also previously revealed that they originally shot two different endings to the last movie before choosing the one showing that Wick survives, which left the door ajar for a possible new film in the future.

“We had a different ending,” Stahelski said to Empire. “You actually saw John Wick at the end of the movie. So it was very clear that he was still alive. The audiences we tested with absolutely preferred the ambiguous ending.”

If there is a John Wick 5, it will likely not be in the near future, judging by Reeves’ latest comments. However, the upcoming spin-off movie, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, is set for release on June 6th, 2025.

Per Lionsgate, the official synopsis reads: “Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.”

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is directed by Len Wiseman, although Stahelski has executively produced the project. The movie marks the final on-screen appearance of Lance Reddick, who passed away in 2023. Gabriel Byrne and Catalina Sandino Moreno also appear in the film.
