Keanu Reeves named inaugural winner of ‘Lance Reddick Legacy Award’
Following Lance Reddick’s death in 2023, the Saturn Awards has introduced the ‘Lance Reddick Legacy Award and the first recipient is his John Wick co-star Keanu Reeves.
Shortly after the 60-year-old’s untimely passing, John Wick: Chapter 4 featured a dedication to the late actor in the credits with star Reeves paying further tribute to his long-time co-star. Furthermore, beyond their shared connection on the action franchise, the two struck up a close friendship away from the cameras, making Reeves the natural choice for the inaugural ‘Lance Reddick Legacy Award’.
The ‘Lance Reddick Legacy Award’ “symbolises and celebrates not only a performer’s talent, but their character,” per the Saturn Awards, making Reeves the standout candidate for not only his dedication to his profession but his relationship with the performer it was named after.
“He had such a passion and a fire for creativity, and for his craft, and for art. I had the chance to work with him on four films over the course of eight years, and over that time, we got to know each other better,” Reeves said to People in tribute to Reddick. “But also, he had such a grace, and he was funny. I mean, humour-wise.”
Reeves also said: “I think my favourite memory… it’s the scenes that I had with him and the relationship that he and John Wick had, Charon,” he continued. “I once told him… Well, actually, I wrote him a letter and I said, ‘people love John Wick because Charon loves John Wick.'”
The actor then recalled how they had “such an affection” whenever they were shooting scenes together, both in terms of the John Wick saga and their own bond off-camera.
“We had such an affection and just really enjoying working on the John Wick films, our characters, getting to work with Chad [Stahelski] and on that series,” he reflected. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime project. I think he knew that, I knew it, and we just loved working together on it.”
