Kate Nash becomes latest contestant voted off ‘The Masked Singer’

British singer-songwriter Kate Nash has surprised viewers by becoming the latest contestant voted off The Masked Singer.

The hit show, which is now in its seventh series on ITV, sees famous faces conceal their identity with an elaborate costume that contains crumbs of clues in regards to their career, saw Nash get voted off on January 24th.

The ‘Foundations’ singer was in The Masked Singer as Monkey Business and it was her version of ‘As Long as He Needs Me’ from the hit musical Oliver that led to Nash being sent home.

Across the series, Monkey Business also performed ‘Maneater’ by Hall & Oates, ‘TikTok’ by Kesha and ‘Strong Enough’ by Cher.

After being unmasked, Nash said of her experience, “I just thought if I do this, I have to disguise my voice. Otherwise I’ll just open my mouth and everyone will just say that’s Kate Nash in a monkey suit.”

She added, “It was quite fun to disguise it and then again with the musical theatre, putting the character and the emotion in was really fun. I liked it.”

Nash continued, “It was nice to just have a laugh, sing some songs and enjoy the performance and music. I’m not interested in a person if they haven’t got a silly billy inside them.”

Her eviction from the programme comes weeks after John Lydon was unmasked as Yak. During an interview on This Morning, the former Sex Pistols honestly revealed that money was his motivation for appearing on The Masked Singer.

The punk icon explained, “The money has now gone and paid for us (Public Image Ltd) to go and record in Portugal for a solid month. And, a little holiday afterwards.”

In March, Nash is set to play at Wembley Arena alongside the likes of Wolf Alice, Tom Grennan, Sugababes, Beth Ditto, Kae Tempest, and more. The event, titled Trans Mission, organised by Olly Alexander and the Mighty Hoopla festival, is in support of transgender rights.

Nash is also due to headline The Roundhouse in London on March 19th.
