Kate Hudson shares dream to play Stevie Nicks in biopic

Hollywood star Kate Hudson has shared her ambitions to bring the life of Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks to the screen in a biopic.

While musical biopics are currently a popular trend in Hollywood, Nicks is yet to have her story immortalised in cinema. In recent years, Elton John’s career was charted in Rocketman, Freddie Mercury was the subject of Bohemian Rhapsody, and most recently, Sam Taylor-Johnson explored the tragic tale of Amy Winehouse in Back to Black.

Over the years, there has previously been discussions around a biopic exploring the extraordinary life of the Fleetwood Mac vocalist, but nothing has ever materialised. Notably, in 2011, Lindsay Lohan was rumoured to be set for the role; however, Nicks later quashed this.

Many prominent actors have thrown their hat into the ring to play Nicks over the years, and now Hudson has joined the queue. In 2023, Margot Robbie said it “would be fun” to portray the Fleetwood Mac singer, but Hudson has taken things a step further by offering to go method for the movie.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the Almost Famous star said the most important element she would look for when signing up for a biopic is “the interesting life, and being able to tell that story correctly,” which is why she believes Nicks would be the perfect fit. She added: “The ultimate is Stevie [Nicks]. But my family might, like, disown me if I ever got a chance to play Stevie. ‘Cause they’d be like, ‘Can we not go method?’ I would probably go way too far into that character.”

Although Hudson’s life might descend into chaos if she attempted to take a leaf out of Nicks’ rock ‘n’ roll handbook, the actor-turned-musician holds the singer in the highest regard, continuing, “I think for all girls who love rock, Stevie’s just our number one. Her whole life experience and the music.”

She then highlighted the band’s journey “from before Stevie to after Stevie” and the singer’s complicated relationship with Lindsey Buckingham, stating, “It’s like a trilogy. There’s so much there. To me, that’s like the ultimate rock and roll story.”

While Nicks’ life has yet to be turned into a biopic, Fleetwood Mac were an inspiration to the Prime Video series, Daisy Jones and The Six, which received the singer’s full support. Taking to Instagram, Nicks revealed she’d finished watching the show for a second time, noting, “It brought back memories that made me feel like a ghost watching my own story. It was very emotional for me. I just wish Christine could have seen it. She would have loved it.”

Whether Hudson secures her dream role remains to be seen, but it’s easy to comprehend why any actor would love the opportunity to tell Nicks’ tale.
