Karen O performs Yeah Yeah Yeahs rarity from self-isolation

In an Instagram performance, Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O has treated fans to rarity ‘Our Time’ which featured on their self titled debut EP all the way back in 2001.

Before beginning her rendition of the track, Karen briefly touches upon how her and her family have been coping during self-isolation over the last few weeks she then reveals that ‘Our Time’ is the very first song she ever wrote for Yeah Yeah Yeahs and delivers a beautiful stripped back version of it. Her son Django, also makes a little cameo in the video.

Karen O’s caption on the social media post referenced the song’s lyrics and read: “Our Time to be whatevs. So maybe you hate the year so far- don’t blame you if you do- it’s the year to be hated. Here’s a YYY deep cut from my heart to yours and fuck yeah for every day you make it through knowing somehow it’s gonna be alright… but couldn’t do it without the essential workers. Thank you we love ya.”

Back in February, she teased the return of the band who haven’t released new music since 2013’s Mosquito. After a prolonged hiatus, Yeah Yeah Yeahs returned for a one-off reunion show All Points Festival in Victoria Park in London in 2018 but each member of the band then immediately returned to their individual side projects.

Now though, Karen O has hinted that the band are contemplating a return to the studio: “All I can say is that I feel ready to make some music,” the lead singer said in a new interview with Australian platform Double J.

She added: “It feels like time to have something new out there.”
