Karen O is easily one of the most fashionable women in music. Her complete devotion to style has never been lost on the fashion world and now that has again inspired work from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs front woman.
The singer has collaborated with Ana Lily Amirpour, the Kenzo director to create a 9 minute film, ‘Yo! My Saint’, which includes a brand new 5 minute track from Karen O. The track and film was created for their Spring-Summer collection and will be released as a 7″ limited edition. The track even features Michael Kiwanuka, so everybody wins.
Kenzo creative director Carol Lim had this to say: “It’s an amazing artistic endeavor and a conversation between two women. A female musician and a female director. That’s kind of the starting point of this. We’re so excited for it to finally come out”.
Speaking of the collaboration, Karen says: “When I thought of the muses for [Kenzo creative directors] Humberto and Carol being this Japanese artist and model, it just sparked this other side of my imagination, which is the Asian melodrama that’s within me […] For the music, I immediately wanted to do melodramatic and romantic and with lots of yearning and high stakes – all that good stuff that’s in any Korean soap opera. It just started owing through me. Also, I wanted there to be something authentically romantic about it in some kind of slightly unconventional way. That’s where my head went with it”.
