Kanye West launches college fund for George Floyd’s daughter
In the wake of George Floyd’s brutal murder last week at the hands of police officer Derek Chauvin, Kanye West has generously arranged a college fund for Floyd’s six-year-old daughter in addition to reportedly donating $2 million to black resistance charities.
While Kanye hasn’t felt the urge to go public with this act of generosity and has instead let his actions do the talking.
Variety has confirmed with their sources that he made donations in Floyd, as well as to the family of Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery’s, who he has also reportedly offered to cover the legal fees of. It states that in addition to this, Kanye has promised to financially support black-owned businesses in Chicago, his hometown, which is where he was also seen marching on Thursday afternoon to demonstrate Black Lives Matter.
Kanye may have opted to avoid social media which led many to think he was staying silent on the issue which couldn’t have been further from the truth. However his wife Kim Kardashian has made this public comment supporting the movement: “For years, with every horrific murder of an innocent black man, woman, or child, I have always tried to find the right words to express my condolences and outrage, but the privilege I am afforded by the colour of my skin has often left me feeling like this is not a fight that I can truly take on my own,” she wrote on Instagram.
Adding: “Not today, not anymore. Like so many of you, I am angry. I am more than angry. I am infuriated and I am disgusted. I am exhausted by the heartbreak I feel seeing mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and children suffering because their loved one was murdered or locked away unjustly for being black.”
