Josh Freese confirms he will join Weezer for upcoming tour

Josh Freese has confirmed that he will be joining Weezer on their upcoming South American dates.

Freese broke the news on social media. He first shared an Instagram post which hinted at his involvement in their South American performances, writing online, “Getting ready to head down to South America with some old friends.” The attached photo depicts a drum kit with Weezer’s logo.

He later took to his Instagram Stories to write, “looking forward to South America with Weezer coming up.” His involvement was previously teased by his brother, Jason Freese, who shared that Josh would take to the stage so that founding drummer Patrick Wilson could return to the guitar.

Freese was originally the touring drummer for Weezer for half a decade from 2007 to 2012. He will step back behind the drum kit for their shows in São Paulo, Buenos Aires, and San Miguel. After this, Weezer will go on to Mexico and Australia.

Freese will then embark on tour with Nine Inch Nails for their early 2026 North American tour, which will kick off in February.

This year has been a tumultuous one for Freese, who was in Foo Fighters from 2023 following Taylor Hawkins’ death until his dismissal in May. The musician previously drummed for Nine Inch Nails from 2005 to 2008, before rejoining last month. He has since been replaced in Foo Fighters by Ilan Rubin, who quit Nine Inch Nails for the job.

This year has also been a difficult one for Weezer. Jillian Lauren, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, pleaded not guilty to felony gun charges after she reportedly opened fire at the Los Angeles Police Department. She has since been found eligible for a mental health diversion in the case.

Weezer’s South American performances will kick off on November 2nd.
