Johnny Depp’s appearance at Glastonbury Festival was always going to bring with it some controversy one way or another.
Well, in a move nobody saw coming, the 54-year-old actor appeared to threaten US President Donald Trump: “When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?” he asked the crowd.
After introducing a screening of his film ‘The Libertine’, Depp asked the audience: “Can you bring Trump here?” After a series of boos and jeers, he added: “You misunderstand completely. When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?”
“I want to clarify,” he continued. “I’m not an actor. I lie for a living [but] it’s been a while. Maybe it’s about time.”
As it is a crime in the States to make threats against the president regardless of his stupidity, The Secret Service has released a statement around the comments: “For security reasons, we cannot discuss specifically nor in general terms the means and methods of how we perform our protective responsibilities,” it read.
