Johnny Depp accuses close friends of “going woke” in Amber Heard trial but has “no regrets”

Johnny Depp opens up about the Amber Heard trial in a new tell-all interview, revealing that he was betrayed by his closest friends in the process.

Speaking to The Times in a revealing new interview, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor opened up about the highly publicised 2022 defamation trial between Depp and previous ex-wife Heard. The trail stemmed from an op-ed Heard wrote for The Washington Post about domestic abuse. Although she didn’t name Depp in the piece, the actor sued her for defamation. She countersued, alleging he had defamed her through statements made by his legal team.

As the trial unravelled, several different, extremely detailed, and personal accounts of events surfaced. At the end of the court case, the jury ruled in favour of Depp, awarding him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5million in punitive damages. However, they also partially ruled in favour of Heard in her countersuit, awarding her $2million in compensatory damages.

Depp admitted that what really “hurts” most regarding the trial is that those closest to him turned on him. “I’m thinking of three, who did me dirty,” he added mysteriously. “Those people were at my kids’ parties. Throwing them in the air. And, look, I understand people who could not stand up [for me], because the most frightening thing to them was making the right choice.”

He continued, “I was pre-MeToo. I was like a crash test dummy for MeToo. It was before Harvey Weinstein. And I sponged it, took it all in. And so I wanted from the hundreds of people I’ve met in that industry to see who was playing it safe… Better go woke!”

His friends weren’t the only group Depp attacked in the interview. After stressing that one of his key merits is his “loyalty”, the actor detailed how he was with one agent for “30 years, but she spoke in court about how difficult I was. That’s death by confetti, these fake motherfuckers who lie to you, celebrate you, say all sorts of horror behind your back, yet keep the money — that confetti machine going — because what do they want? Dough.”

In 2021, Depp indicated in an interview that he felt he was the victim of cancel culture and that Hollywood had boycotted him. However, Depp continued to land brand deals and acting opportunities. In the new interview, he opposed the idea when asked if he regretted his choices, given that the public saw him as a completely different man from the adored actor in 2009. “I have no regrets about anything,” he says, “because, truly, what can we do about last week’s dinner? Not a fucking thing.”
