Joe Perry hints at Aerosmith reunion: “We’re talking about it”

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has revealed he believes the band will reunite despite cancelling their farewell tour due to Steven Tyler’s vocal cord injuries.

In September 2023, Aerosmith initially announced the postponement of all future shows due to a serious vocal injury suffered by their frontman. Their tour had only begun earlier that month, but after three shows, it became clear Tyler was unable to perform, and the dates were then rescheduled for 2024.

Unfortunately, once 2024 rolled around, Tyler’s vocal situation had not improved. Last August, Aerosmith confirmed they had retired from touring, and all of their future shows had been cancelled.

The band shared the following statement about the cancellation: “Sadly, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision—as a band of brothers—to retire from the touring stage.”

Since then, Tyler returned to the stage for a one-off charity event in February and also performed as part of a supergroup at the recent Back to the Beginning concert in Birmingham, which served as Black Sabbath’s farewell.

Now, in a new interview on Sirius XM’s Trunk Nation, Perry shared his optimism about the possibility of Aerosmith playing together again in the future, sharing, “We’re talking about it. I mean, except for like, anything on the calendar, we’re all alive and well, so, you know, we’ll just have to see, you know?”

Perry continued: “I know there’s gotta be at least another Aerosmith gig, and I’m not looking forward to putting the set list together for that one, but I don’t know, man. We’ll just have to see.”

While question marks continue to linger over whether Tyler’s voice is capable of delivering a full-length set, Perry believes it is achievable, stating, “You know, I think he would. I think it’s just a matter of getting there.”
