Joe Keery reveals he’s “pretty much done” recording new Djo album
Stranger Things star Joe Keery, who makes music as Djo, has revealed that his next album is “pretty much done.”
Keery released his debut album, Decide, in 2022, and recently re-released ‘End of Beginning’ from the LP after his ode to Chicago went viral on Tik-Tok. The track is currently fifth placed in the UK Singles Chart.
Now, in a new interview with Dan O’Connell on Radio X, Keery discussed his plans to release new music, revealing, “Yeah, I mean I’m pretty much done recording it, almost.”
He continued, “So, I’ve been kind of just cooking as this has all been going on, now this song has kind of popped, and it’s at a funny time because where I’m at with this next album is sort of already kind of set in stone. So, it will be interesting to see how this new stuff goes over given everything that’s going on.”
Keery also discussed the unexpected success of ‘End of Beginning’, labelling it “crazy”. He reflected: “I mean for me it’s on the shelf at this point. I guess the cool part is that people seem to be connecting with the song and that’s kind of what you want. You know, there’s kind of foot in the door, like what you’re saying, people discovering that it’s me who is making the music. But yeah, it seems like people are taking it and making it their own and that’s kind of what you hope for as an artist.”
Keery’s recent success shows how Tik-Tok can still be a useful tool for musicians, even after Universal deleted their back catalogue from the platform. Furthermore, the sudden surge in popularity meant Keery had to set aside some projects but has since returned to the studio to finalise the Djo album.
