At Jane Fonda’s climate change rally in Washington, DC. yesterday, legendary actors Joaquin Phoenix and Martin Sheen were both arrested.
Since October 11th, Jane Fonda has been using her Fire Drill Friday protests to share Hollywood’s dismay at the lack of progression over the climate emergency. Fresh off the back of his Golden Globe win Joaquin Phoenix was in attendance for the final DC demonstration.
This week, the focus was on “the major banks and investors that finance fossil fuel exploration.” And with a renewed guestlist for their final protest of the series, some big stars were in attendance.
Before his arrest the Joker star said of his own work toward climate balance, “I struggle so much with what I can do [to fight climate change] at times,” he said in a video captured by The Hill (via Uproxx).
“There are things that I can’t avoid — I flew a plane out here today, or last night rather. But one thing that I can do is change my eating habits.”
Joaquin Phoenix was arrested by police along with iconic actor Martin Sheen and a number of other protestors. Since starting Fire Drill Fridays earlier this year, Fonda, too, has been arrested four times.
Fellow thespians Sam Waterston, Sally Field, Ted Danson, and Rosanna Arquette have also been cuffed for the cause.
