Jimmy Kimmel turns the tables on Donald Trump: “Did he just make a joke about his death?”

Jimmy Kimmel has condemned President Donald Trump for joking about his own death after he attacked Kimmel for precisely the same.

The latest feud, which has seen Trump call for ABC to fire Kimmel from his late-night gig, stems from Kimmel calling Melania Trump an “expectant widow” on his show last week before an alleged shooter attempted to carry out an attack at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Trump described his joke as “really shocking”, before adding, “A day later a lunatic tried entering the ballroom of the White House Correspondents Dinner, loaded up with a shotgun, handgun, and many knives. He was there for a very obvious and sinister reason.”

After labelling Kimmel’s comment as a “despicable call to violence”, he then said the comedian “should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC.”

Kimmel, who earlier defended his joke on April 27th’s episode, then played part of Trump’s meeting with King Charles on Jimmy Kimmel Live on April 28th, which saw the president talk about the late Queen’s 63-year marriage to Prince Philip.

Trump joked, “Excuse me if you don’t mind. That’s a record we won’t be able to match, darling. I’m sorry. Just not going to work out that way.”

In response to Trump making light of the subject, Kimmel jokingly told viewers, “Wait a minute. Did he just make a joke about his death? My god. You should be fired for that.”

Kimmel added, “Only Donald Trump would demand I be fired for making a joke about his old age and then a day later go out and make a joke about his own old age.”

Despite the criticism from the Trump administration, who are calling for him to lose his job, Kimmel has doubled down, delivering a whole number of jokes about the royal visit to the United States from King Charles.

In a light-hearted rib at Trump’s diet, he told viewers, “Yesterday, the royals joined the Trumps for afternoon tea, and boy, would I love to be a fly on the cucumber sandwiches for that conversation. No way Trump was drinking tea, right? I bet they boiled some Diet Coke and put it in a cup for him.”

His latest comments come after Semafor reported that the Federal Communications Commission is “moving towards” launching a review of the broadcasting licence of Disney, the parent company of ABC.

Steven Cheung, the White House communications director, has also come for Kimmel, calling him a “shit human being” who deserves “to be shunned for the rest of his life“.
