Jimmy Kimmel signs new contract with ABC

US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has signed a fresh contract with Disney that will keep him with his network, ABC, until at least 2027.

Bloomberg reported the news, citing sources close to the matter who said Kimmel informed his staff of the renewal on December 8th.

He then also made an official announcement during the monologue of that night’s show, saying the show “has been renewed until May 2027, or until the world ends, whichever comes first.”

It comes as a strong statement from Kimmel after he has faced his most tumultuous and controversial year on the air so far, after his show was pulled for a number of days back in September, following comments he made in the aftermath of the death of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.

The move caused uproar across both the political and entertainment spheres, with many branding Kimmel’s suspension an infringement on the right to freedom of speech.

However, the talk show host was then subsequently reinstated, where he made a tearful speech during the opening monologue of his first show back.

Despite this, Kimmel has remained a major target for US President Donald Trump, who has sought to influence the late-night TV scene over the course of his current second administration.

Earlier this year, it was widely speculated that the reason Stephen Colbert’s show on CBS is being cancelled on CBS as of May 2026 is due to the political pressure being placed on the network by its parent company, Paramount.

For Kimmel’s part, having hosted his show since 2003, he attracted some of his highest ever ratings following the lifting of the suspension, averaging 1.9 million viewers a night over the course of the third quarter of 2025.

However, he recently joked that he would only stand down from his duties if Trump were to resign, too.
