Jimmy Eat World unveil new ‘Something(s) Loud’ EP and share unreleased track ‘Failure’
Jimmy Eat World have announced a new EP, titled Something(s) Loud. Alongside the announcement, they’ve shared the previously unreleased track, ‘Failure’.
The six-track project is slated for a November 14th release. It will marry up digital-only singles, such as ‘Something Loud’, ‘Place Your Debts’, a cover of Crooked Fingers’ ‘Call to Love’, with the previously unreleased track, ‘Failure’.
On ‘Failure’, frontman Jim Adkins muses the repeated lessons we all learn from life, singing, “They say a failure is only real if no one learns / But such a costly education / In flames and burns.”
The track is their first since 2023’s tune, ‘Telepath’. It was originally recorded in 2019. It is engineered and mixed by the band Failure’s co-founder and vocalist, Ken Andrews.
Reflecting on six songs included on the EP, Adkins shared: “By 2021, it felt like distancing restrictions were finally easing and we could get back on the road. Our ‘Surviving’ album had barely been released before we were performing live again and reconnecting with fans.”
He continued, “Coming out of the pandemic, it didn’t feel right to tour without offering something more, so we took the chance to share a few more tracks we’d been working on. At the time, it seemed like listeners were gravitating toward playlists rather than full albums, so we decided to meet them where they were.”
Previously, Far Out praised Jimmy Eat World’s 2001 album, Bleed American, deeming it one of the best of the year: “Blending emo with post-hardcore and power pop, Bleed American is a paradox. It’s so of its time, but also timeless. ‘The Middle’, ‘Bleed American’ and ‘Sweetness’ are about as nostalgic as you can get. There is riff after riff on this record destined to keep your knuckles white. Simply put, it’s a hell of a ride.”
Jimmy Eat World will drop the EP via their own label, Exotic Location Recordings. Standard vinyl and a limited number of signed copies will be available for fans to order. See the official tracklisting below.
