Jessie Buckley says Callum Turner should be the next James Bond

It is one of the most asked questions in the movie business, and Jessie Buckley was ready to share her answer when posed the quandary of who will be the next James Bond.

Ever since Daniel Craig confirmed that he would not be returning to the role of 007 after his last movie with the franchise, No Time to Die, who would become the next person to don the bow tie and the golden gun has been continuously discussed.

It means that nobody is safe from having an opinion on the idea, and Buckley, who was walking the red carpet at the 98th Academy Awards while nominated for the ‘Best Actress’, was posed the question, albeit after being fished out of a bowl while speaking to Variety.

“I think Callum Turner would be pretty great,” the actor shared when she was asked one of the more unenviable questions in Hollywood.

When the interviewer confirmed that Buckley didn’t pick her Hamnet co-star Paul Mescal, she said, “No, I didn’t, I answered the question,” with a smile. “Paul is already James Bond for me,” she shared.

Buckley could well be in a better position to make decisions on what roles she has in the future, as she leads up the category for ‘Best Actress’ as the undoubted frontrunner after her star turn in Hamnet.

Buckley is one of the potential winners, having previously won the same prize at the Baftas, Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice, and Actor Awards, among others.

Although Hamnet was well-received by critics across the board, Far Out‘s Aimee Ferrier saying the film was “not worth the hype”.

Speaking of Buckley’s character Agnes, she added: “Agnes is an overly archetypal earthbound mother figure, in contact with some witchy, spiritual heritage, which spurs her to insist on giving birth in the forest alone, spreading out across the roots and the mud as she wails.”
