Jessie Buckley wants to do a musical soundtracked by Radiohead but fears “they’re far too cool”
Jessie Buckley has revealed that Radiohead would be her dream musical collaboration, but isn’t confident they’d agree to participate.
The actor was speaking in a new interview with Deadline when she made the revelation, ahead of her finding out whether she will win the ‘Best Actress’ award for Hamnet that she has been nominated for at this year’s Oscars, which is being held next month.
In the meantime, Buckley looked back at the scores of her career so far and reflected on her musical roots, owing to her breakout on the BBC theatre reality show, I’d Do Anything.
“I love singing,” Buckley told the publication. “What’s fun is in between jobs, I go to my dirty secret basement and write, and I have no need, apart from to feel free in it.”
She added: “Whether I’ve done it in a small club in Camden, or I’ve done Cabaret in the West End, it’s so part of me. And I’d love to marry that with cinema. It would be such a nice thing to have done in my life.”
Subsequently, when asked what kinds of hypothetical projects she would like to create in the future, Buckley responded: “I’d love to do a new musical. I think about the sound of London. And get Radiohead to do the music. But they’re far too cool.”
It comes as the British rock band concluded their European tour at the end of last year, concluding in December in Copenhagen. It marked the first new activity from Radiohead in some seven years, having released their last album, A Moon Shaped Pool, in 2016.
However, Buckley may indeed have her brush with Radiohead at the upcoming Oscars, as the band’s lead guitarist, Jonny Greenwood, is also nominated in the ‘Best Original Score’ category for his work composing the soundtrack for One Battle After Another.
Last week, Greenwood made headlines by asking for his music from his previous Oscar-nominated project, Phantom Thread, to be removed from the Melania documentary, depicting the life of the US First Lady.
