Jesse Eisenberg to donate kidney to a stranger: “A no-brainer”

Actor, writer, and director Jesse Eisenberg has revealed that he will be donating his kidney to a complete stranger this December.

Speaking on the Today show with his fellow Now You See Me: Now You Don’t crew, the star shared that he is selflessly giving his organ away this December.

“I’m actually donating my kidney in six weeks,” he said on the show. “I really am.”

The 42-year-old went on to explain his decision, sharing, “I don’t know why. I got bitten by the blood donation bug. I’m doing an altruistic donation in mid-December. I’m so excited to do it.”

Speaking in a different interview, Eisenberg added of the surgery, “It’s essentially risk-free and so needed. I think people will realise that it’s a no-brainer, if you have the time and the inclination.”

The Social Network star has always been an avid blood donor, but feels ready to take his selflessness to the next level.

He explained the process: “Let’s say person X needs a kidney in Kansas City, (and) their child or whoever was going to donate to them is, for whatever set of reasons, not a match, but somehow I am.”

The actor continued, “That person can still get my kidney and hopefully that child of that person still donates their kidney, right? But it goes to a bank where that person can find a match recipient, but it only works if there is basically an altruistic donor.”

In April, the first Now You See Me: Now You Don’t trailer was released. The third instalment in the high-stakes magician series is slated for a November 13th release.

Earlier this year, Eisenberg wrote, directed, and starred in the movie A Real Pain, which Far Out gave five stars, writing: “A Real Pain masterfully blends both humour and darkness, striking a perfect balance in the grey area between both that reflects our reluctance to fully confront the darkness, either hiding behind a socially acceptable pain or ignoring the suffering that desperately demands our attention.”
