Jeremy Strong will play Mark Zuckerberg in ‘The Social Network’ follow-up, titled ‘The Social Reckoning’
Jeremy Strong will officially play Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network follow-up, which is officially titled The Social Reckoning.
The David Fincher-directed 2010 epic chronicled the rise of Mark Zuckerberg and charted his journey as he created Facebook while studying at Harvard University. Now, Aaron Sorkin will take over directing duties for the newly named follow-up.
Strong will take over from Jesse Eisenberg, who originally played the media mogul. The actor’s recent performances have included the hit TV show Succession, 2024’s The Apprentice, and 2019’s The Gentleman. He will also next appear in Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere alongside Jeremy Allen White, who will play the ‘Born in the USA’ singer.
Though it is linked to the first award-winning film, the new movie will be based on The Facebook Files. These were a groundbreaking series of documents released in 2021 that chronicled the potential dangers that the social media platform has had on the world in recent years, including those of political violence engendered by the platform’s proliferation of misinformation.
Anora Oscar winner Mikey Madison, Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Jeremy Allen White, and Emmy and Grammy nominee Bill Burr will also star in the film set for a 2026 release. Production for this “companion piece” is expected to begin next month.
Subsequently, ‘The Social Reckoning’ will tell the incredible true story of how Frances Haugen, a young Facebook engineer who will be played by Madison, enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz, a Wall Street Journal reporter played by White, in an attempt to blow the whistle on the social network’s most guarded secrets.
The Social Network secured eight Academy Award nominations, and Sorkin’s work on the movie won him the Oscar for ‘Best Adapted Screenplay’. It earned a whopping $226 million at the global box office. Watch the original trailer for the 2010 hit below.
