Jeremy Strong praises Bruce Springsteen biopic: “It really is a love story”
The Apprentice star Jeremy Strong has opened up about portraying Bruce Springsteen‘s manager, Jon Landau, in the singer-songwriter’s upcoming biopic, Deliver Me from Nowhere.
The film, which will see Jeremy Allen White play a younger version of Springsteen, details the story behind the musician’s seminal album, Nebraska, released in 1982. The forthcoming movie is based on the book by Warren Zanes, Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska, released in 2023.
In addition to Strong’s role as the central character, Landau, British actor Stephen Graham plays Springsteen’s father, Doug, who had a complex relationship with his son.
Speaking to Deadline, Strong said of working on Deliver Me from Nowhere: “It’s honestly been one of the greatest working experiences I’ve ever had.” He also said that Landau, who he portrays, “has a lot to do with who Bruce is”.
Strong also touched upon the relationship between Springsteen and Landau, stating, “Bruce and Jon really opened the kimono to Jeremy and me. The more I’ve learned about them and witnessed them together, it really is a love story in a sense between these two men. Jon has been so instrumental in helping to guide Bruce, coming into his life at a moment where Bruce was really at a crossroads”.
The Succession star believes that Deliver Me from Nowhere, which currently doesn’t have a release date, is “really a story about artistic authenticity in an increasingly synthetic world”.
Bruce Springsteen’s thoughts on his biopic
On January 2nd, Springsteen appeared on the Sirius XM station E Street Radio. During the conversation with host Jim Rotolo, ‘The Boss’ admitted it was “a little” strange at first to see White portray him before adding, “but you get over that pretty quick”.
The singer-songwriter also heaped praise on The Bear star’s performance, adding, “And Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall right into it. He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognise. He’s just done a great job, so I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there.”
Additionally, the New Jersey icon praised the supporting cast, especially Strong, stating, “And Jeremy Strong and Odessa Young, there’s just a tremendous cast of people. They cast the film beautifully so, it’s very exciting.”
