Jeremy Renner vows to be “strong enough” for Marvel return
Actor Jeremy Renner has looked back on his snow plow accident that nearly proved fatal and expressed confidence that he will have the strength to make a comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The event transpired at the start of 2023 when Renner endeavoured to remove a family member’s car from a blanket of snow. Following the incident where he was struck and run over by his “extremely large” 14-pound snow cat plowing machine, Renner was air-lifted to the hospital. There, he received treatment for blunt chest injuries, and reports indicated that he was in a “critical but stable condition” post several significant surgical procedures.
Afterwards, Renner frequently posted updates for fans. On January 17th, he confirmed that he had returned home. He subsequently opened up about the accident to Diane Sawyer, explaining: “I was awake through every moment,” adding, “Face, eye socket, jaw, mandible broken. Lung collapsed. Pierced from the rib bone, your liver — which sounds terrifying.”
Now, in a new interview, the actor provided a health update: “[I’m doing] probably 90 percent of all the things I needed to be doing … I think another six months will be hopefully running [more] … I got to set goals for myself. I’ll do whatever I can … whatever it takes to get better, to get stronger.”
“It’s a one-way street, this recovery,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “The rest of my life is about health and wellness. Recovery will be part of the rest of my life, so I look forward to it, man. There’s always something to do to get better, be stronger, be happier, be healthier, and that’s what I look forward to.”
Months into his recovery, the actor also revealed how the incident made him a less “callous” person, explaining to People, “I certainly got a lot of callousness squashed out of me by that machine. I’ve never been bitter, but always maybe a little more callous, a little bit more tough. And I just think those calluses are just scraped off me at this point.”
At 53, he asserts that the experience of being crushed by the machine has provided him with a renewed sense of vitality. “Literally, I feel pretty open and wonderfully sensitive and youthful,” he said. “I’ve been blessed.”
