Jeremy Renner secures first movie role since snowplough accident
At the start of 2023, actor Jeremy Renner‘s life was in firm danger after he accidentally run himself over with a snowplough, which proved to be almost fatal, but 18 months later, Renner has secured his return to Hollywood.
While on holiday in January 2023, Renner attempted to remove a family member’s car from a blanket of snow. Tragically, he was struck and run over by the snowplowing machine, but thankfully, Renner was air-lifted to the hospital, where he received treatment for blunt chest injuries. While it was stated he was in a critical condition, Renner made a miraculous full recovery.
Initially, returning to acting was not at the top of Renner’s agenda, and his health was all that mattered to him. After spending 2023 recovering, Renner recently returned to his role in the Paramount+ series, Mayor of Kingstown, which is set to premiere on June 2nd, and now, he’s been cast in Rian Johnson’s upcoming Knives Out movie.
Johnson recently confirmed Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will arrive on Netflix in 2025, which will see Daniel Craig reprise his role as detective Benoit Blanc. Furthermore, it’s also been shared that Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Glenn Close and Andrew Scott will feature in the film, which is set to enter production shortly.
Upon revealing news of the upcoming film, Johnson said: “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”
While the snowplough accident could have made Renner back away from Hollywood and brought his career to a premature end, instead, it has rejuvenated the actor.
During an emotional recent visit to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Renner spoke about the “wonderful lessons” he’s picked up from the traumatic event. He elaborated: “There’s so many great gifts of being tested to your limits, right? Your physical limits, your spiritual limits, emotional limits. I won’t have a bad day for the rest of my life. It’s impossible. There’s that gift.”
Renner also noted how it taught him “how to not panic and how to focus.” If he had lost his cool under the pressure, it could have had fatal consequences, noting, “I just had to breathe. If I didn’t breathe then I would have been gone. Forget the eyeball and all the titanium and the broken bones. It doesn’t matter, right? So to think of it step by step, I think, is a really great reminder of what we all should be looking at in life.”
