Jeremy Allen White provides update on Bruce Springsteen biopic
Jeremy Allen White has provided an update on the new Bruce Springsteen biopic, Deliver Me from Nowhere, which will see him portray ‘The Boss’.
White was announced as the top choice for the role of Springsteen earlier in the year. The award-winning actor has gained huge acclaim in the last few years for his role in the sports biopic The Iron Claw and, most notably, for his starring role as Carmy in the Hulu series The Bear, for which he took home an Emmy last year.
Scott Cooper will write and direct the film, which will focus particularly on the making of Springsteen’s sixth album, Nebraska. Released in 1982, Springsteen himself considers Nebraska the album that best represented him.
Now, White has provided an update on the biopic during a conversation with Variety. “We’ve communicated a little bit through some other people,” he began, “but I hope this still all comes together.”
Timings are still being ironed out for the project, and White is still figuring out his approach to the mammoth task of portraying Springsteen. “I’m trying to have a bit of my own process with it before meeting the man, too,” he explained. “I wanna try to have an understanding, so when I meet him, I’ll have a bit of confidence somewhere in me to stand there.”
White also commented on whether he’d be willing to sing in the role of Springsteen, providing a promising answer. He simply stated, “We’re gonna try. We’re gonna try our best.”
Deliver Me from Nowhere isn’t the only movie focused on Springsteen that is currently in the works. A documentary about The Boss has also been announced. Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will provide a close look at the band’s live process, from practices to choosing their setlist.
Thom Zimny, who previously worked with Springsteen on Springsteen on Broadway and Western Stars, has directed the new documentary. It is set for release in October of this year, just ahead of the final dates of Springsteen’s world tour.
Springsteen and the E Street Band will spend their summer on the road, performing on stages across Europe, including two dates at Wembley Stadium in London at the end of July. They will then return to North America before the tour ends in Vancouver, Canada, on November 22nd.
