Jennifer Hudson stars in the new trailer for the upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic Respect.
The film, biographical drama, is directed by Liesl Tommy, it sees Hudson shine in the lead role. Due for release in December later this year, the project also includes the likes of Forrest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Heather Headley, Queen Latifa, Marc Maron and Mary J. Blige.
The sad loss of Aretha Franklin due to pancreatic cancer in 2018 was only matched by the outpouring of appreciation for one of the most iconic voices in the game. The new biopic will look to pay homage to an unimaginable career.
Hudson, who was handpicked by Franklin herself before she passed, is picked with the unenviable task of depicting Franklin’s extraordinary life which spans from from singing in her father’s church to becoming one of the most iconic singers of all time.
While the film was originally due for release in August, the ongoing pandemic has forced the official date to be pushed back until the end of 2020.
Here, see Hudson offer a glimpse of her brilliance in a new teaser trailer.
