Jennifer Coolidge names her karaoke song

Jennifer Coolidge has had what some might deem an exciting career journey, transitioning from gracing the sidelines of Hollywood fame as a kooky addition to any project to someone who is regarded as a genuine talent and valuable voice in acting circles. Coolidge has experienced something of a delayed resurgence when it comes to fame, especially considering her rise to prominence since appearing in 2001’s Legally Blonde compared with, more recently, Netflix’s The Watcher.

The rapidity with which Coolidge garnered renewed fame and popularity in 2023 is astounding. Aside from featuring in a handful of notable film and television titles, she was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people. It seems everyone is finally on the same page about her being a national treasure, with the cherry on the top being her unconditional support of the LGBTQ+ community.

“Here I am, surrounded by gays,” Coolidge joked earlier in the year at the annual GLAAD Media Awards. “We’re here to honour media that helps the world understand and respect the LGBTQ+ community,” she continued. “You know, I have so much respect for the LGBTQ community, and I just want you all to know that I love you, and I thank you for always being there for me. That’s why I’m here because I wanna give back.”

Clearly, the last couple of years have been big ones for the glamourous star, after also sitting down with Deadline to disclose some of her deepest, most personal experiences and preferences. When asked what her guilty pleasure was, she wasted no time divulging her favourite pastime: “I like to buy a big bag of bubblegum and then just chew it for two seconds and then put it on the side,” she hilariously responded.

Continuing, she added: “I can just go through the whole bag…I feel like I’m being really decadent.”

She also discussed her go-to karaoke pick. Even though she didn’t mention a specific song, the implications within her response are enough to envision what those high-hitting tracks might be. “Anything from Queen because I can’t sing very well,” she quipped. “I [like to] take some big, ambitious, dramatic song and just ruin it.”

Elsewhere, Coolidge also revealed the one movie or television show she would take with her to a nuclear bunker. “I’m a sucker for Schitt’s Creek,” she tells the host, explaining, “I was late on discovering Schitt’s Creek, and I just – every day, after I watch it, I feel 100% better.”

The series stars Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara alongside Levy’s real-life son, Daniel, and daughter, Sarah. Interestingly, Coolidge also has a professional relationship with the show’s creator and actor Eugene Levy, after both sharing screen time in the teen comedy American Pie. Although Coolidge never graced the screen as one of the show’s guest stars, it’s not difficult to imagine her seamlessly fitting into its unique humour, heartwarming moments, and endearing queer representation.
