Jennifer Aniston names her favourite scene from ‘Friends’: “So many amazing memories”
These days, it seems like the golden era of the sitcom is truly behind us.
Audiences used to convene around their televisions each week to watch shows about everyday people and the quandaries that come with our existence, while we now have fewer shows that possess this comforting relatability, instead being inundated with stories so detached from real life.
The sitcom used to be the crowning glory of television, with countless classics like Seinfeld, How I Met Your Mother, and The Big Bang Theory plunging us into the daily lives of characters who became so familiar to us that they truly felt like people we knew.
However, perhaps the most influential of all is Friends, with the simple story of six twenty-something friends living in New York City becoming the holy grail of ’90s television and changing the landscape of the genre as we know it. With hundreds of episodes, there is a storyline to reflect every kind of dilemma under the sun, with the romantic mishaps and career struggles of the characters reflecting the very real plight we find ourselves in as we try to forge an adult life.
All ten seasons of the show are marked by the natural chemistry between the central group, with the dynamic between the actors and guest stars leading to countless iconic moments that are still referenced to this day. Whether it be Joey’s invasion of Chandler’s closet as he wears every single item of clothing he owns, or Ross’ struggles to put on his leather pants on a date, there is a huge back catalogue of hilarious scenes that will never be forgotten.
However, everyone involved in the show has their own fond memories of the production, with Jennifer Aniston sharing the moments she loves the most.
When asked to think of Rachel Green, a host of moments might immediately spring to mind. It could be her disastrous attempt at making trifle or her on-again, off-again relationship with Ross that provided an endless amount of romantic tension throughout the show. However, one of Aniston’s favourite moments came through the presence of one guest star and a ridiculous scene as Ben Stiller finds himself in a screaming match with a couple of farmyard animals.
When discussing her favourite moments, Aniston said, “An episode with Ben Stiller and the chick and the duck, me exploding with anger when I was pregnant and waiting to give birth and everyone else was going before me. There really are so many funny moments and so many amazing memories of that show. I’m very lucky.”
While Phoebe was known for her extreme mood swings while pregnant, Rachel’s baseline mood leaned towards the aggressive side, often snapping at Ross and creating a number of salty moments as they argued over everything in sight, while the gang walked on eggshells around her.
But the comedic timing and timelessness of the show is heightened by the natural chemistry between the actors, with the group becoming so familiar and describing how they became their real-life family both on and off-screen. From the simplicity of the ‘pivot’ scene to the many running gags, each joke landed effortlessly and continually added to the growing catalogue of moments that still defines the legacy of the show.
