Fresh from several Oscar nominations for 2019s Jojo Rabbit, and with an upcoming iteration of the Marvel universe in Thor: Love and Thunder just around the corner, director Taika Waititi is one of Hollywood’s hot properties, particularly when it comes to quirky dramatic comedies. It seems as though the director is soon to return to his roots with longtime collaborator Jermaine Clement too, having last worked together on the TV series What We Do In The Shadows, they have recently announced that they are working on a new action-adventure comedy series together.
Clement reported in a recent interview that the show will feature long-form episodes, and is unlike anything he has ever made before. “It’s an action-adventure comedy. It’ll be different from what I’ve usually done…I’ve made three sitcoms now, and I hope this one is still funny but more of an adventure series,” Clement reported.
“We just started writing,” Clement noted, who co-created the original What We Do In The Shadows film and TV series with Waititi following their collaboration with Flight Of The Conchords many years earlier.
The third season of What We Do In The Shadows is due for release in the US on September 2 on FX, with availability on Hulu a day later. “We’re picking up right where we left off, that’s for sure,” Harvey Guillén said in a recent interview, teasing possible plot details for the upcoming series, saying, “But what’s to be done with this scenario? What’s to be done with someone who has shown their true colours, but also has shown their loyalty, and loyalty to the people who survive?”.
Recent reports from the executive producer of the show, Stefani Robinson, have also teased a new character for the latest series, noting that it’s, “someone we all know and love”.
