Jeff Goldblum turned vegetarian due to the animal cruelty themes in ‘Wicked: For Good’: “It’s changed me”

Jeff Goldblum has revealed that he turned vegetarian in light of the themes of animal cruelty highlighted in Wicked: For Good, saying, “It’s changed me.”

The Hollywood actor was speaking during a new interview on British daytime talk show This Morning, ahead of the European premiere of the hotly anticipated second instalment of the musical on November 10th. As part of this, he discussed some of the deeper themes which his role as the Wizard of Oz allowed him to lean on in the film.

“I’m lucky,” Goldblum explained. “It’s uncommon that you get to be doing this over a period of time and get more fertile and juicy and interesting and relevant roles for yourself at this period of time. And working with John Chu – amazing. It’s changed me. You know, after doing this movie, we talked about the animal cruelty. I stopped eating meat and poultry.”

The actor was referencing the fact that, at the end of the first film, it is revealed that the Wizard has been silencing the voices of animals and planning to use a troupe of magical monkeys for his own malicious agenda, the repercussions of which are explored further in Wicked: For Good.

In light of this, Goldblum noted how he may be dining on a vegetarian option over the upcoming festive season of Thanksgiving and Christmas, before adding, “But I’m happy. We need the world to work for everybody on Earth, and every creature too.”

Reflecting back on the chance to work with Wicked’s director, Jon M Chu, Goldblum hugely praised the filmmaker by saying: “He’s a master and a genius. He made a masterpiece out of the first one, and an even deeper, more relevant, soulful, smart, complicated, and riveting, rollicking entertainment out of this second one. I’m crazy about it.”

Wicked: For Good will be released in cinemas on November 21st, 2025.
