Jason Momoa shaves for first time in six years for ‘Dune 3’: “Only for you, Denis”

Jason Momoa has painstakingly shaved for the first time in more than half a decade ahead of filming for Dune 3.

The highly anticipated third movie in the series from Denis Villeneuve is currently in production in Budapest, Hungary. In April, Momoa previously let slip on American television that he would be returning to Dune: Messiah as Duncan Idaho despite his character being killed off in the first film.

Notably, in the series of books, Duncan is later cloned and makes a return, which likely explains Momoa’s comeback to the film series for Dune: Messiah.

In preparation, Momoa has shared an Instagram reel of him sacrificing his beard for Dune. In the clip, he hilariously says, “Only for you, Denis,” and “Goddammit, I hate it.”

In addition to Momoa, Dune: Messiah will see Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and Florence Pugh return to their roles. The movie will also welcome a series of newcomers, including Momoa’s 16-year-old son, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa.

Speaking to Extra, the Aquaman star said of what his son should expect on set: “A rude awakening is what he’s in for. He’s into the workforce for the first time. It’s going to be good. He did it on his own. I don’t want to help him, and he’s done it all on his own, and good for him.”

“You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is. I couldn’t do what he’s doing at his age. There’s no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own. I was on Baywatch at 19. He’s 16 and holding shit down with Denis Villeneuve.”

Dune: Messiah is currently scheduled to be released in cinemas worldwide on December 18th, 2026.
