Jamie Bell takes over from Barry Keoghan as Duke Shelby for new ‘Peaky Blinders’ series
Jamie Bell has taken the reins from Barry Keoghan to play the iconic Duke Shelby in the forthcoming Peaky Blinders series.
The All of Us Strangers actor will take on the character in the new project, which is set ten years after the events of the recent movie, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
Creator and writer, Steven Knight, has shared excitedly, “I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 50s.”
Nodding toward the key character change, Knight added, “We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also leading the cast.”
The official synopsis promises that Shelby, who is the son of Cillian Murphy’s Tommy and operates at the heart of the quest for blood and power, is “older, wiser, more ambitious, and most certainly more dangerous.”
The last episode to air was in April 2022, which marked the end of the sixth series. During the course of the programme, 36 episodes aired. It won the Bafta for ‘Best Drama Series’ for its fourth season.
The new era of the hit Netflix and BBC show will focus on the “race to rebuild Birmingham” after World War II.
Propping up this ruthless, nightmarish world is Stranger Things star Heaton, The Flatshare‘s Jessica Brown Findlay, No Time To Die‘s Lashana Lynch, and Stereophonic‘s Lucy Karczewski.
The show, which has been commissioned for two seasons, is being filmed in Birmingham’s Digbeth Loc Studios. As of yet, no release date has been confirmed.
The Peaky Blinders world continues to draw in fans from across the globe. The new film, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man has been Netflix’s number one movie globally for two weeks running since its launch on the streaming platform.
