James Gunn makes superheroes terrifyingly sinister in ‘Brightburn’

James Gunn has released the trailer for his new horror Brightburn.

The new horror film, produced by James Gunn, written by Mark Gunn and Brian Gunn, and directed by David Yarovesky, offers a terrifying new spin on the pre-existing values of a superhero film.

“What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister,” the film’s official synopsis asks. “With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.”

With a cast boasting names such as Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Matt Jones, Meredith Hagner and more, Brightburn is expected to hit cinemas in the summer and marks Gunn’s first major project since being fired from lowing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
