James Blake to stream live Instagram concert amid coronavirus pandemic
Dream pop sensation James Blake is set to do his part in filling the void left by live music amid the current coronavirus pandemic by announcing a live performance that is set to take place on the singer’s Instagram page at 8pm (GMT) tonight.
The multi-instrumentalist made the announcement in a series of tweets yesterday, which read: “Ok looks like we’re in this for the long haul so I’m jumping in… gotta play for you guys somehow. 12pm PST tomorrow on IG live. That’s 8pm GMT. See you then!”
This was shortly followed by Blake realising he had got his time differences mixed up and the show would actually be taking place an hour earlier in the UK than he had first imagined where he comically added “It’s the earth’s fault I got that wrong”.
The producer seemed to be in a jovial mood as he then asked fans for requests and jokingly stated that he would be “opening with Imagine” following the star-studded video that Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot released on Instagram last week featuring the likes of Will Ferrell and Jamie Dornan.
The ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease was first officially identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei in China. As of March 23rd, more than 342,410 cases of COVID-19 have been officially confirmed but the actual number is thought to be much higher due to substantial under-reporting of cases.
With more than 14,762 people having died from the virus, COVID-19 has now spread into more than 180 other countries—including mainland Europe, South America and North America. Given the exponential growth in cases in countries like Italy and Spain, the WHO have now stated that Europe was the current centre of the pandemic.
