Jack White officially announces new album, ‘No Name’

Jack White has confirmed that his latest album, No Name, will be available from Third Man Records on August 1st before arriving on streaming platforms a day later.

The former White Stripes singer occupies a unique space in the musical landscape, and defies the norms of the music industry at every opportunity. For example, in 2022, released two studio albums, Fear of the Dawn and Entering Heaven Alive, which was an unusual move, but not completely unexpected for White.

Now, with No Name, White used his Third Man Record stores to start rolling out the album on July 19th. The mysterious record was given away to customers for free with any purchase, with the vinyl-only release housed in a low-key blank sleeve, stamped with No Name and the catalogue number TMR-1000 in his signature blue tone.

At first, buyers were puzzled by the free gift but word soon spread that it was a new Jack White record, and copies began popping up online for ridiculously high prices. Furthermore, material has also since leaked online, but until now, information was limited.

More details emerged about No Name when, on July 27th, the White Stripes founder played a charity gig for the American Legion Post 82 venue in Nashville. At that concert, which included performances of previously unheard songs, White declared, “I got something special for you at that merch table on your way out.”

The copies given out to fans in Nashville featured a little more information about the release than the initial set of records. Pressed on blue vinyl, these No Name records also included real album artwork and even a track listing.

The back cover of the LP includes a list of dedications to a variety of figures, featuring names such as Mia Goth, Zasu Pitts, Nudie Cohn, and Coco Crisp.

The variety of No Name vinyl that will become available across Third Man Record stores from August 1st and select independent record stores on August 2nd is described as a “blue indie vinyl edition”. Meanwhile, the album will also be available to stream digitally from August 2nd.

While White could have kept No Name as a secret shared between a select lucky few, the DIY album has been a labour of love for the musician over the last two years, and is now deservedly set to be available to a wider audience. White recorded, produced, and mixed the record at his Third Man Studio, it is also being released by Third Man Records after Third Man Pressing pressed the vinyls.

Additionally, White is set to embark on a small series of festival dates across Europe in August as a last-minute replacement for Queens of the Stone Age after they were forced to pull out due to Josh Homme’s health issues. The run begins at Way Out West in Sweden on August 8th, and concludes two days later at Syd for Solen in Copenhagen.
