Jack White responds to Donald Trump’s remarks about Rob Reiner’s death: “Shame on you”

The White Stripes musician Jack White has responded to Donald Trump’s claims that Rob Reiner’s death was caused by “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and that the late filmmaker was “tortured and struggling”.

Reiner and his wife, Michele, were found dead at their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, on Sunday, December 14th. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been “booked for murder” and charged with a felony crime following an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department into an “apparent homicide”.

Following the incident, Trump responded on the Truth Social social media platform, saying that Reiner was a “once very talented movie director and comedy star” who “has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others”.

He also claimed that Reiner’s death was “through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS,” adding, “He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J Trump.”

Following Trump’s remarks, musician Jack White expressed his disdain on Instagram, saying, “Trump you disgusting, vile, egomaniac loser, child. Neither he nor any one of his followers can defend this vile, horrible insult to a beautiful artist who gave the world so much.”

He went on, “To use someone’s tragic death to promote your own vanity and fascist authoritarian agenda is a corrupt and narcissistic sin. Shame on you trump and anyone who defends this. God bless you Rob Reiner and thank you for what you gave the world. I never even met you and I still stand by you.”

The White House has yet to respond to White’s statement, but this comes as tributes continue to flow in for the late director and his wife, including from musician Paul McCartney, who recently worked with Reiner for a cameo in Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.

“Life can be so unfair and this tragedy proves it,” McCartney wrote on social media.

He added, “His father, Carl Reiner, was a great humourist before him and Rob followed in his dad’s footsteps doing a terrific job making many great films. I will always have fond memories of Rob and the idea that he and his wife will no longer be in the world with us is heartbreaking.”

Other tributes include former US President Barack Obama, Christopher Guest, with his wife, Jamie Lee Curtis, and many more.
