Jack Black believes ‘A Minecraft Movie’ is the perfect antidote to current world affairs: “There’s so much violence and war and hatred”
Jack Black has stated ahead of the release of A Minecraft Movie that he believes the film is exactly what the world needs in the current climate.
Appearing at the film’s premiere alongside leading actors Jason Momoa, Jennifer Coolidge and Danielle Brooks at London’s Leicester Square Cineworld, Black spoke with the Hollywood Reporter about the Jared Hess-directed film, which arrives on April 4th.
“What the world needs now is love, sweet love,” Black said in his interview. “We’ve got to work together, my God. There’s so much violence and war and hatred. And that’s what I love about this movie — there’s a lot of love in it and there’s a lot of creativity. There is some anger and violence too, but in the end it’s about friendship and working together to make [the world] a better place.”
A Minecraft Movie, which is based on the popular video game Minecraft, sees Black play the game’s beloved player character, Steve. The film itself centres around four people who are sucked into a portal where they’re placed in the setting of Minecraft and have to follow the guidance of Steve in order to get home.
Momoa also seemed to agree with Black’s sentiments, stating: “I think everyone needs to escape a little bit right now. It’s nice to sit back and have a really fun adventure and giggle and laugh,” adding that working with Black was “beyond what you want him to be.”
He continued by promising fans of the video game that the film will hopefully live up to their expectations, and that they will be able to produce another film as part of a series.
“We won’t let you down,” Momoa continued. “We worked our ass off for you, and I think we brought the world to life. I think everybody’s gonna love it. There’s so much more to tell; I just hope the fans will be delighted and let us make more.”
