Jack Black joins Foo Fighters live for AC/DC ‘Big Balls’ cover
Hollywood legend and Tenacious D singer Jack Black joined Foo Fighters at their opening show in Auckland, New Zealand, for a live rendition of AC/DC’s ‘Big Balls’.
Black delivered an endearing and amusing contribution to ‘Big Balls’ in collaboration with Fiona Jeans, the drum tech from Foo Fighters, who took charge of the verses. Putting his all into singing and dancing, the performance was captivating with an energy only Foo Fighters could provide.
Black, who is currently in New Zealand filming the Minecraft movie, has made a number of appearances along Foo Fights in recent years, covering songs by AC/DC alongside Rush, Led Zeppelin, and others.
Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl also played drums on Tenacious D’s self-titled debut album back in 2001, and provided a cameo in the Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny movie.
The pair also teamed up for the music video for ‘Low’, the third single from the band’s 2002 release, One on One, which MTV famously banned at the time.
During an interview with NME, Foo Fighters’ guitarist Chris Shiflett said of the video: “It’s Dave and Jack Black being incredibly sketchy. It’s white-trash porn. Dave’s a big man to let the world see him in that way. It’s a side of Dave Grohl you’ve never seen before!”
When describing ‘Low’, Grohl said it was “the kind of song that you pray would be a single,” adding, “It’s the one that everybody likes, but there’s just no way ’cause it’s too weird.” Due to its controversial nature, however, MTV decided to ban the music video, even though it was, as Grohl put it, “totally funny, but totally fake.”
