Iron Maiden announce documentary to celebrate 50th anniversary

Iron Maiden have announced details of a new documentary to celebrate and reflect upon their lengthy career.

Although the film is yet to receive a title, it will be arriving in cinemas at some point during autumn. For the project, the heavy metal pioneers have teamed up with Universal Pictures and Malcolm Venville will handle directorial duties.

The documentary includes the final interview given by former frontman Paul Di’Anno who passed away in 2024. Additionally, Kiss’ Gene Simmons, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich and Hollywood actor Javier Bardem discuss their love of the band.

Another part of the film will be an animated sequence featuring Iron Maiden’s mascot, Eddie, which they state is “a unique visual experience that highlights Iron Maiden’s widespread impact and the strong connection between the band and their truly global army of fans”.

The band’s manager, Ron Smallwood, said of the upcoming film: “We’re proud Universal Pictures Content Group has chosen to share the unique story of Iron Maiden with the world. We have given them unrestricted access to the band, our fans and musical peers.”

Smallwood continued: “We trust that they will excite not only music fans but also anyone who loves a story of an underdog beating the odds to become and remain one of Britain’s biggest musical exports since our first record released 45 years ago.”

Iron Maiden are also celebrating its 50th anniversary with a world tour that will begin on May 27th in Budapest and conclude at the London Stadium on June 28th.
