Interpol announce new album, ‘This Mirror Weighs a Ton’

Interpol have confirmed details of their new album, This Mirror Weighs a Ton, set for an August 28th release.

The forthcoming album, set to arrive through Partisan Records, has been previewed with the opening two songs on the record, which are the title track, as well as the new single ‘See Out Loud’.

For This Mirror Weighs a Ton, Interpol tapped up Miike Snow’s Andrew Wyatt, who has worked with everyone from Liam Gallagher to Rosalía, and recorded the album at the producer’s studio in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

Per press materials, the new record “expands Interpol’s sonic palette with the addition of strings, woodwinds, layered vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar and experimental sound design while maintaining the band’s signature rhythmic and melodic approach”.

The two new tracks offer a look at both sides of Interpol, with ‘See Out Loud’ delivering a shot-and-a-half of the vintage sound associated with the New York legends, while ‘This Mirror Weighs a Ton’ sees them tap into their darker side for a haunting five-minute unravelling of emotion.

Across the album, “themes of reflection, perception and emotional tension recur”, according to the press release. Meanwhile, the album title, This Mirror Weighs a Ton, came straight from singer Paul Banks’ improvisational vocal process.

Ahead of This Mirror Weighs a Ton, Interpol will touch down in Europe for festival season, which will begin at Mad Cool in Madrid on July 10th. They will also play BBK Live in Bilbao, as well as visits to Belgium, France and Italy before returning to North America for headline dates.

Then, at the end of August, they will play Outbreak Festival in London alongside Deftones, Idles, Amyl and the Sniffers, plus Kalorama in Lisbon and Rock En Seine in Lisbon, before again resuming their touring duties in North America.

Before the year is out, they will head out on a co-headline arena tour across Europe and the UK with Bloc Party, which will conclude with two nights at The Olympia in London in December.
