Irish indie lads Inhaler have decided to take on one of the biggest names in pop by releasing a live cover of Billie Eilish song ‘Your Power’.
The performance came during the band’s BBC Radio 1 appearance on Wednesday. Considering how the Happier Than Ever single has only been out for roughly two months, Inhaler put together a fairly faithful and well executed cover that shows off their own leanings towards the pop side of indie and alternative music.
“We wanted to do something that was popular,” singer Elijah Hewson explains about the song choice. “I think [Eilish] is a really good inspiration for people who wanna get into the pop world. When you hear her songs, you really know that it comes from her heart. And I think the song has a great message.”
It might not exactly be a fair fight, but both Inhaler and Eilish will be duking it out on the album charts this month: Inhaler’s debut It Won’t Always Be Like This was released last week, and Eilish’s Happier Than Ever is set to come out at the tail end of July. Sure, Inhaler haven’t dented the Top 100 yet, and Happier Than Ever is more than likely to shoot straight near the top upon release, but maybe the new connection between the two artists inspires some mutual chart ascendance.
It Won’t Always Be Like This is certainly worth a little bit of attention. We named it Album of the Week, describing it as “an album that could only have been made by four lads in the early stages of adulthood, where every emotion is heightened to the point where even the smallest sensations of life and love take on a sort of magnified grandeur. It’s not perfect, but it has fantastic musicianship, hooks for days, and a lively atmosphere that’s completely intoxicating.”
