Iggy Pop, Cat Power and more team up for Marianne Faithfull covers album

Iggy Pop, Cat Power, Shirley Manson and a host of other figures from the music community appear on a new Marianne Faithfull covers album.

Titled The Faithful: A Tribute to Marianne Faithfull, the record will arrive on December 8th. It features 25 notable artists who bring to life 19 Faithfull songs across two discs. All profits from The Faithful will go directly to Faithfull to help her recover from long-Covid. The record can be pre-ordered now.

On the record, Iggy Pop teams up with Cat Power – who has just released her own Bob Dylan covers album – to bring to life a rendition of Faithfull’s interpretation of John Lennon’s ‘Working Class Hero’. Elsewhere, Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson converges with Peaches for ‘Why D’Ya Do It’.

Tanya Donelly and The Parkington Sisters have already shared their version of Faithfull’s ‘This Little Bird’. Donelly explained in a statement: “Marianne’s voice has always been one of my favourite instruments, from childhood through today, and her music and spirit have been life-long inspirations.”

She continued: “I wanted to cover ‘This Little Bird’ for its fragile and beautiful musical arrangement and melody, and the bittersweet story the lyrics tell. A total honor to get to sing and play this lullaby, and The Parkington Sisters elevate with their vocal and string magic. We’re so grateful to be able to pay tribute to this amazing singer/songwriter and woman.”
