Idris Elba will release a new mixtape inspired by his film, Yardie.

The film, which marked Elba’s directing debut, features songs from the likes of reggae legend Dennis Bovell, Toddla T, Breakage and more.

The official synopsis of the film reads: “Years ago while growing up in Jamaica, D witnessed his brother’s murder, before being taking in by a don. Years later, having been sent on a mission to London, the past catches up with him.”

“Making a film as director allowed me, for the first time, to influence the music, in this case reggae,” Elba said of the project. “I had the best seat in the house, music and film. So this mixtape is the aftershock of Yardie, a collection of tunes that extends my love affair with the film. It was a true collaboration and everyone on the tape could relate to Yardie.”

Newham General’s new song ‘King Fox’, which appears as the first track of Elba’s mixtape, has already been released and is available to stream below along with the films’ official trailer.

The mixtape will be released next month.
