IDLES share 'GREAT' the final video from 'Live at Le Bataclan'

As the final act of the year from IDLES, the Bristolian punk band have shared a fitting celebration of what has been a fantastic year. On the day they release the electrifying live album A Beautiful Thing: IDLES Live at Le Bataclan, the band shares the new live video for ‘GREAT’.

The band’s first-ever live album, A Beautiful Thing: IDLES Live at Le Bataclan which is out today on Partisan Records, is a highly charged record full to the brim with every sweat-dripping, life-affirming, beer and joy drenched reason that you need to have IDLES in your life.

The limited double LP edition is a real treasure and available across three different colours, each with their own individual artwork. All are wonderfully housed in deluxe gatefold packaging, and each contains a booklet designed by Joe, featuring photographs from the show and a selection of poetry.

The album marks the end of a remarkable year for the band, which included a recent Mercury Prize nomination for their adored second record Joy as an Act of Resistance. The album broke the top 5 in the charts and even took home the Ivor Novello award for Joy. But they really broke out with their empirical live performance built on the two columns of energy and love, which for a sweat-inducing punk show, is an unbelievably refreshing thing.

Nowhere is this more apparent than in the band’s last show of 2018 at La Bataclan, as guitarist Mark Bowen describes the end of the first Joy As An Active of Resistance: “There was an impending sense of freedom in the room. That night was catharsis in a bottle, a rage and camaraderie that can only be obtained by spending three-and-a-half months on a bus/van with eight other people you have already spent way too much time with. That can only be obtained by the presence of a receptive, understanding and respectful audience.

“That night felt as if everyone in that room was in it together. We had created something needed on that tour, by the 5 of us, our crew, anyone in that room that night or any other on the tour. We need, as much as any others, to repeat the simple mantras from our songs to help us work through the dark and get better. Love Yourself, love yourself, LOVE YOURSELF.”

Speaking about the release of A Beautiful Thing: IDLES Live at Le Bataclan, vocalist Joe Talbot says: “Our show at Bataclan was the end of a very long journey for us. On that tour we learnt so much about ourselves, each other and the audiences we have grown with over the past 10 years. That show was nothing short of catharsis and nothing more than love. We love what we do and the people who have carried us here, there was no hiding that at Bataclan and we are so very grateful that the moment was captured in all its glory, love and fatigue. Long live the open minded and long live the moment.”

The video itself is a stark reminder of what a rock and roll show should look and sound like. The room is full of mercurial tension and full steam ahead punk tunes performed by a band unlike any other right now. A fitting end to what has been a truly ‘GREAT’ year, IDLES sign off 2019 with an indescribably infectious ideal for living, with great music and even better company.
