Idles share first taste of the new album with ‘Mr. Motivator’

The first murmurings of a brand new Idles album have officially turned into a song and now we have the brilliant new song ‘Mr. Motivator’ to really get our blood pumping. It just has to be our Track of the Day.

The Bristolian punks have not only shared the new track but also provided a lockdown video special alongside it which sees a number of the bands fans doing their best impressions of the titular ’90s morning television personality.

If you’ve somehow missed the boat on Idles then rest assured that everything you need to know about the band is encapsulated in this one release. A ferocious punk heartbeat that pumps out rollicking riffs and a guitar sound like no other is met by a serious dose of good humour and welcomed humility.

When you add to that the integral connection the band not only enjoy but actively encourage between themselves and their fans and you have one of the best bands in Britain right now.

It’s what has made their last two albums such desirable pieces and put Idles into the hearts and minds of the public. It will also be what propels their third album, following their seminal record, 2018’s Joy As An Act of Resistance. It’s also what fuelled the band’s visuals for the first release from the new album ‘Mr. Motivator’.

“We want to start this journey with a means to not only encapsulate the album’s sentiment,” Talbot said in a statement, “but to encourage our audience to dance like no one is watching and plough through these dark times with a two tonne machete of a song and the most beautiful community of scumbags ever assembled. Let’s go. All is love.”

“Let’s seize the day/ All hold hands/ Chase the pricks away” sings Talbot as Idles gather up a thunderstorm behind him. It’s a relatively cheery refrain that works as the perfect counterpoint to the aforementioned tempest and highlights what Idles are all about.
