Electronic indie group IDER have released their latest single, ‘cbb to b sad’.
The latest taste of their upcoming second full-length release Shame, ‘cbb to b sad’ comes on the heels of tracks ‘BORED’, ‘obsessed’, and ‘Cross Yourself’, the other singles released by the duo of Lily Somerville and Megan Markwick.
“‘cbb to b sad’ celebrates the universal feeling of ‘the ick’,” the group explained in a press release. “It’s a confession to staying in a relationship that you know isn’t right for you because you don’t want to deal with the inevitable sadness that comes with ending it. We’ve both been there and have seen so many friends go through it too, so we thought there should be a song to honour this feeling!”
Synthesizing the best elements of R&B and electronica, ‘cbb to b sad’ articulates all the feelings of disgust and disdain that anyone can fall into once they start to lose a bit of their lustre. “I used to be fun and cool/Now I don’t fancy myself.” Perhaps the person that the narrator is trying to leave is putting those thoughts inside their head, or maybe the dullness of the relationship is permeating their other feelings, but either way, it’s a bad situation. Bad situations, as it happens, are great inspirations for pop songs.
Shame is shaping up to be a killer new release. All the previously released singles have been great, straddling the line between get-don party jams and hardcore emotional tearjerkers, sometimes hitting both within the same song. The great thing about IDER is that they’re a band for all scenarios: if you need party music, they work exceedingly well in that regard; or if you want to sit with your thoughts and play music that will appeal to your more contemplative and thoughtful side, IDER works that angle as well.
